Welcome to The Gameful Scientist! This newsletter explores the intersection of bio and gaming. Enjoy!
With Q1 over, it's time for some reflection! In this week’s article, we’ll depart from our usual format. Instead of a "Level" or "Side Quest," I want to share some personal reflections and gather feedback from you all. Let's call this "Checkpoint," and I'll do it every quarter.
Last week, I attended the Game Developers Conference (GDC) in San Francisco. It was awesome! The experience left me thinking about where I want to take The Gameful Scientist and the type of community I hope to build. I'm considering shorter-form content while maintaining a consistent writing schedule. This will allow me to continue exploring the intersection of games and bio and give me time to build something new.
My goal with The Gameful Scientist has been to explore a new, exciting space, broaden my mind, and reimagine scientific discovery and innovation. Personally, I want to create something that solves problems creatively and inspires people along the way.
The startup world seems to be undergoing an existential crisis. As a romantic optimist, I'm really excited for the future. It's time for us to build ambitious companies with lasting, positive impacts.
The rapid pace of AI development can be overwhelming but also offers long-term value opportunities. As Seth Bannon from Fifty Years recently wrote, "Create the data, control your future."
By building technology that generates unique, high-quality datasets for AI training, we can shape the world. I couldn't agree more. I'd add that by focusing on human-AI collaboration and creativity, builders can create a new breed of startups with enduring value.
I want to continue writing as a fun challenge, but I also want to create broadly appealing content. Maybe I explore bio-inspired mechanics and themes in video games, pitch and break down startup ideas at this intersection, or explore game ideas. Or, I could write about topics I come across during chats with you all! I'm eager to hear your thoughts on our next direction. To better understand your needs and preferences, I've prepared a short survey. Your input is invaluable as we continue to explore the intersection of games and bio, and I appreciate your time and honest feedback.
Thanks for joining me on this journey. Let's continue to learn, grow, and create together.
Please fill out the survey here.
I'm in Montenegro this weekend for the SynBio Summit, speaking about the Gamification of Science. If any readers are in Zuzalu, reach out!
See you next week :)
